What's the difference between Comuna 3 and Comuna 13 ?
Medellín has 16 comunas. Comuna 13 is located in the west and became known for the violence of the late 1990s. Comuna 3, in the northeast, was affected earlier, during the 1980s, by armed conflict, forced displacement and gang violence. Two different stories, two unique perspectives on the city's transformation.
Is Comuna 3 safe to visit ?
Yes. The tour is led by a guide who knows the neighborhood, its residents and its community leaders. As in any large city, basic precautions are recommended, but the experience is designed to be safe and comfortable throughout.
Why visit Comuna 3 instead of another neighborhood ?
